Alternative Asset Management Disrupted! - What We Solve

Alternative asset manager  be it a Private equity manager or a hedge fund manager or say a Family Office manager ,  has needs which are different from the software solutions currently available on the market. Where alternative asset manager needs a 360 view of his portfolio, his functionaries for example the accountant  has a more pointed problems at hand  he is only interested in tracking  the cash flows,  assigning costs to individual transactions etc which is limited to an area of the business accounts. The software solutions deal with just specific aspect of the business or are "point solutions". This leads to a huge gap between what is needed and what is available for the alternative asset managers today.
An asset manager is managing different assets under his fund and has varied needs of data. A complex asset manager like a Blackstone or Carlyle of today would be managing a Private equity fund, a Credit fund, Real Estate Fund, a Distressed fund or even a fund of funds.  His needs have grown far more for the existing software of 2 decades back to be handling.

The software of the past chiefly : (1) These software are primarily point solutions and at the best could be providing solutions for a few aspects more of the total business, but none of them looks at the business as an Alternative asset manager would like to look at. (2)  They have a huge cost of implementation and maintenance and can hardly be termed as flexible or scalable (3) customization for meeting the changing needs of the business is expensive and cumbersome.

Inefficient infrastructure leads to another challenge. The asset managers outsource supposedly "non critical processes". Though outsourcing of some processes can bring in short term efficiency gains, it also leads to loss of control over the data. Remember "Data is the New Oil". An outsourcer may not view the data as what it would mean to the asset manager.
Outsourcing of the data creates other challenges like data security and  privacy.
We at Pepper decided to look at these key pain points in Alternative Asset Management and designed a software which takes care of all of the above and looks at the business in a holistic manner, the way any Asset manager would like to look at as. As a matter of fact the software goes much beyond.
